About this Event

Join us for a workshop for TCB's Emerging Writers' Program, facilitated by Diego Ramírez.

Wednesday 19th March, 6-8pm

TCB Gallery (1-5 Wilkinson Street, Brunswick, Victoria 3056)

Speaking Words introduces participants to the basics of reading or performing writing to an audience. The workshop looks back at the performance monologue movement of the late 80s in the US, featuring Guillermo Gomez Peña, Tim Miller, Karen Finley, Spalding Gray and Holly Hughes. Breaking apart core elements of their performances, such as voice, body, and messaging, to identify how they animate their writing for a public. Participants will be invited to read segments of their work while introducing learnings. After undertaking Speaking Words, participants will be better positioned to read their written work publicly in a variety of contexts.

Participants should bring a short text (between 250-500 words) that they would be happy to read/perform.
