Speaking of Archaeology
A casual chat over wine and cheese with
Dr. Christopher Dore, PhD, MCIfA, RPA
(President, Society for American Archaeology, established 1934)
and
Dimity Hammon MA, RPA
Dimity and Dr. Dore will chat about Archaeology in general, with maybe some stories from the field, the future of archaeology, including the future for archaeologists and whatever other things come up. We are happy to answer questions!
Dr. Dore consults on heritage business, law, and policy through Heritage Business International/Cultural Heritage Experts. He also serves as Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at the University of Arizona and Adjunct Professor of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University. Earlier in his career he investigated Maya settlement and community organization, both archaeologically and ethnoarchaeologically, in the Puuc Region of Mexico. Dr. Dore was an early adopter and user of geospatial technologies (satellite remote sensing, spatial statistics, lidar, GIS, GPS, etc.) and used these as research tools to understand both the visible and invisible spatial components of the archaeological record. He also serves as an expert witness on high-profile criminal and civil cases involving archaeological resources.
Dimity is a professional archaeologist with a specialty in midden archaeology. She directed excavations on both coasts of Canada. She is the Chief Site Steward for the South Barrio archaeological site in Tubac which will be open for tours in January 2026.
