Meredith is a Savannah native, with a background in architectural and urban design, historic preservation and real estate. She also serves on the boards for Start Up Savannah and Friends of City Hall and is the Vice Chair of the Chatham County Zoning Board of Appeals. She volunteers her time with local organizations like Historic Savannah Foundation, and Housing Savannah. Meredith was born and raised in Savannah, in a home purchased by her grandfather in the early 1900s, located just south of Savannah State University. Built in 1893, the property was a safe haven for the Black community in Savannah during segregation, and is on the Placentia Plantation, where generations of the Stone family were enslaved. For the last decade, Stone has been working to restore the home which has been nominated for inclusion on the National Register of Historical Places. Meredith has also gotten involved in genealogy, where her research has uncovered archives belonging to her great uncle, who founded the department of research at Tuskegee Institute, and worked closely with Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois. Join us to learn more about Meredith and her family and their amazing journey.
