About the workshop:
If you had a minute to tell people who and why you are, what would you say? And how can you say it with style and flair? Join spoken word artist Don Shiau for this beginner's workshop on performance poetry, and learn to write your own personal poetic statement. No experience necessary! Shiau will introduce and demonstrate the form, discuss some notable works, and guide you through how to craft and perform your first spoken word piece. If you've only read poetry in books, be prepared to discover a whole other way of "doing poetry"—one that is dynamic, direct, and refreshingly relatable.

About the instructor:
Don Shiau is a writer, a humourist and a musician, and has been featured in various capacities at Singapore Writers Festival, Poetry Festival Singapore, and Singapore Night Festival. He co-organises and co-hosts Outspoken, a competitive spoken word event. In 2023, he won the inaugural National Poetry Recitation Competition (English, Open Category). In 2024, he received the Oliver Seet Memorial Award, and was selected for the Sing Lit Station Manuscript Bootcamp to develop his debut novel. Find out more: @donsayone.
