Every Tuesday from Sept 10th to Oct 22nd, 1-3pm
Please make sure you can attend all 7 sessions (or as many as possible) as there is a performance opportunity at the end.
Spoken word poetry is all about big ideas and bold ways of sharing them. It can be side-splittingly funny, or hit you with something so moving that it changes the course of your life.
Our professional facilitators will guide you through the process of writing, editing & performing your own spoken word poetry.
During the project you will:
- Find new ways to express yourself
- Develop your skills in creative writing
- Build on your confidence and public speaking
This project is open to anyone. Maybe you have never penned a poem before, or perhaps you’re looking to develop your existing writing further. All that’s required is a passion for words and a willingness to try something new.
All sessions will be run by experienced SlamFresh facilitators Rowan McCabe and Donald Jenkins. Rowan McCabe has written poetry for Channel 4 and the National Trust. Donald Jenkins has performed at Glastonbury Festival and runs Newcastle’s premier spoken word night, Born Lippy. Together they have over 30 years’ experience in running writing and performance workshops.

Guest membership of Chilli Studios is needed to take part in this project. This will give you access to the studio for the Speak Volumes sessions only. If you would like access of the full Chilli Studios resources a membership form will need to be filled in after the first Speak Volumes workshop session.
