Bridging the Gap Between Engineering and Finance
Steven Reinitz
Petrie Partners
Abstract:
Petroleum engineers routinely generate technical analyses that inform significant capital-allocation decisions, yet the ultimate impact of this work often hinges on how effectively it is communicated to financial and leadership audiences. Production forecasts, type curves, and development assumptions may be technically robust, but if presented without appropriate framing, context, and articulation of risk, suboptimal executive decisions may result. This presentation examines the interface between engineering and finance, with an emphasis on how technical work product may be evaluated within financial decision-making frameworks such as cash flow modeling, valuation, and risk assessment. Drawing on experience across engineering and investment banking roles, the speaker will offer perspectives on how clear communication and audience-aware framing can lead to better capital allocation outcomes at the project and corporate levels.
