About this Event

Please join us for a free lunch and a presentation on "Joy in Authenticity: Countering Social Media's Impact on Youth Emotional Wellbeing" by Beth Armstrong. We hope you will attend this valuable presentation on such a relevant topic.

"Joy in Authenticity: Countering Social Media's Impact on Youth Emotional Wellbeing"

As pastors, mental health and medical providers, youth leaders, parents, grandparents, educators, and community members, we are longing to support and guide the youth we shepherd and care for. And yet, the glossy, filtered, beautiful reels and posts on social media bombard us ALL with how to look, what to wear, what we should consume, and attempt to define “who” we are and “who” we should strive to be. How can we encourage youth to discover joy in authenticity? How can we counter social media’s pervasive impact on youth emotional wellbeing? Rooted in God’s Word and current research about the impact of social media on adolescents, Beth Armstrong will share meaningful ideas on how to support youth and their parents in resetting boundaries, restoring relationships, redefining identity, and reconnecting in the “real world”.

Beth Armstrong has been a Professional Counselor Associate with Salem Pastoral Counseling Center since September 2023. Prior to joining the SPCC team, Beth worked as school counselor and behavioral specialist for 19 years with the Salem Keizer School District. Beth has a huge heart for children and adolescents, served as a volunteer middle school Young Life leader, and was a church camp counselor for over a decade during her adolescence. Beth and her husband have a preteen daughter (age 9) who has already asked for a phone, but might be lucky to get a flip-phone in her future which she lovingly refers to as “old enough to be in a museum”.
