Join us at Zuanich Point Park for viewing the Sun, Moon, and any other available targets! Bring your scope or try out one of ours. All ages are welcome, but we do ask that all young astronomers stay supervised and follow our instructions when viewing through the telescopes.
Since all our events are weather-dependent, check back to this event and our Facebook page for any last-minute updates! Should the weather turn sour before or during the show, we will update this post as soon as possible to keep you well-informed.
What can you Expect to see?
To view the Sun safely, we will have filters fixed to the telescopes and tested before use. Some of our telescopes are also designed specifically for seeing solar prominences! We are hoping to see flares that stretch into space longer than the Earth, or perhaps we will see cooler regions on the Surface of the Sun that dwarf our planet, pummeling our senses of scale.
To bend our minds a little further, we will also have a beautiful celestial object that is 1/400th the size of the Sun but coincidentally 1/400th its distance. So it appears roughly the same diameter in the sky! Yes, you got it, the Moon!
Luna should be in a First-Quarter phase, revealing many craters along the terminator (the boundary between night and day). We will catch glimpses of sunlight pouring over crater walls, illuminating vast canyons and mountains over 238,000 miles away.
Later in the evening we hope to spot Saturn and all its marvelous rings.
We hope to share all these observations with you and hopefully more, weather permitting!
Clear skies!
