About this Event
Transport your senses to the sun-drenched coast of Valencia in this immersive, hands-on cooking class led by food writer and chef-instructor Shawnie Kelley. Together, you’ll create an authentic Spanish Paella, brimming with shrimp, shellfish, and smoky chorizo sausage—a dish that captures the spirit of Spanish gatherings and seaside feasts.
Chef Shawnie will guide you through the art of building flavor from the ground up, beginning with a rich, aromatic sofrito simmered with smoked pimenton and saffron. You’ll learn how to layer proteins, vegetables, and stock to achieve the perfect texture—each grain of rice tender, yet crisp at the edges, creating the hallmark of true paella. Along the way, you’ll explore paella-specific ingredients, including traditional short-grain rice varieties, Spanish olive oils, and the spices that define this celebrated dish.
To complement your paella, you’ll prepare a Citrus Side Salad, a bright and refreshing counterpoint often served alongside seafood and meat dishes throughout Spain. And for dessert, you’ll make Churros, fried until golden and dusted with cinnamon and sugar, paired with warm, velvety chocolate dipping sauce. Your meal will be served with a glass of sangria, the perfect way to toast your culinary trip to Spain.
