Join us for an evening celebrating women in Upper Edmonton and to discuss women's safety in local public spaces.
About this Event

Join us at Fore Street Living Room Library to celebrate women in Upper Edmonton and to discuss women's safety in public spaces. The event is open to everyone and we wish to create a safe and constructive space for people to come together and listen to one another.

There will be art, spoken word poetry performances and a workshop, free food, live music, short film screenings, and a panel discussion. See full list of activities and times below.

Artwork by Claudia Clare

There will be a collection of Claudia Clare's ceramics displayed at the library during the event. Claudia is a potter, writer and feminist activist. In her artistic practice, she uses ceramics to tell stories which relate to contemporary social issues, such as feminism and nationalism.

Artwork by Women from Edmonton

The screen prints will be created by local women from Edmonton as part of the 'Women's Safety in Public' course, facilitated by The Daughter's United and local artist Jenni Allen.

Nigerian Food from Coal City

To celebrate a local female cook and business owner, we will be serving free, delicious Nigerian food from the brilliant Coal City run by the wonderful Anthonia Aghaji.

Spoken Word Poetry Performances, 4.30-6.50pm

There will be spoken word poetry performances and readings celebrating women and exploring the issue of women's safety in public spaces.

Words Meet Art Workshop, 4.30-6.50pm

This fun drop-in workshop is for all ages and will encourage participants to create art/poetry that celebrates women and reflects on the importance of them in our lives.

Panel Discussion, 7.30-9pm

The Daughters United will chair a panel discussion to explore women's safety in public spaces. The panel will include Upper Edmonton Ward Councillor Margaret Greer, a female Edmonton Police Officer, artist Claudia Clare, and two local female residents.
