About this Event
This training session aims to teach you about the Space4Nature app and the ground truthing that volunteers will do. In this session you will learn how to use Survey123, which chalk grassland plants we would like you to identify, and finally how to undertake the ground truthing surveys. Please ensure you bring along a smart phone to be able to undertake the survey.
The training will be held at our Education Centre at Nower Wood from 9.30am to 12.30pm. The address for Mill Way, Leatherhead, KT22 8QA Please Park in the bottom car park and walk up the stairs to the centre.
Before the training, please download ArcGIS Survey 123 from either the App Store or the Play Store (the app icon is shown below). If you have any issues with this, we can help on the day.
During the training session we will head out to some local patches of chalk grassland which are about a fifteen-minute walk away. Please ensure you wear suitable footwear and be mindful of steep slopes. We will carry out some demo tests to show you the app in action and see if we can identify our target plant species.
Once trained you will be able to head to our test site, Sheepleas over the coming months to carry out surveys.
If you are under 18, you will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian when attending the training and undertaking surveys.
