A 109-year tradition at Southwestern, Candlelight is one of the highlights of the fall semester. This service of lessons and carols welcomes our community to the chapel for a time of worship and singing.Please join us for one of Southwestern’s long-standing annual traditions of Candlelight Service to celebrate Advent and the Christmas season. The Candlelight Worship Service is adapted from “An Advent Service of Lessons and Carols” in The United Methodist Church Book of Worship, and based on one developed in 1934 for the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge. The Season of Advent, which begins the Christian year, is the four weeks prior to the celebration of Christmas and marks the season of anticipation and preparation.
Southwestern will host two services at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.
