About this Event
The Southland Wind Ensemble is in the middle of preparing for our Season Opener concert on Saturday, September 28, 2024! This concert will start off our concerto cycle with Bourgeois' Concerto for Flute and Wind Orchestra, featuring both Kenya Nelson and Carlos Maulini as our soloists. Alongside the Concerto, we have Alfred Reed's Alleluia! Laudamus Te, a majestic hymn for winds and percussion. Contrasting this celebratory-style hymn is Wood's Mannin Veen, A Manx Tone Poem, which incorporates four Manx folk-songs. Joining us to conduct Mackey's Hymn to a Blue Hour is Gregory Robinson, former conductor of the CSU Dominguez Hills Wind Ensemble, before ending with Ives' “Country Band” March, a parody march that quotes a number of popular songs in an Ives-ian manner and a twist ending…
