About this Event
Join us for the second of three informal workshops exploring the history of the D/deaf community in Southend.
The workshops will be led by the Essex Record Office (the county archive) and local artist Damien Robinson.
We want to gather, discuss, and record stories of Southend's D/deaf community. Anyone with lived experience of the community is welcome!
For the second workshop, we'd love you to bring along something from home about the community, whether that's a photograph, flyer, document or object.
In the session, we'll map out spaces that have been important to D/deaf people locally and discuss what you've brought along.
The workshops will be held at Southend Library at the Forum (see map above). They will be BSL interpreted. For the second workshop, the interpreters are Jane Simia and Andy Appleby.
The building has:
- Step-free access
- An induction loop
Please get in touch if you have any further access requests - email [email protected].
Missed the first workshop? Don't worry, come and join us and bring any information or images you have linked to Southend's Deaf community.
The project is funded by an Engagement Grant from The National Archives. Find out more about the funded projects here: https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/grants-and-funding/engagement-grants/current-and-past-projects/
