Southampton University Symphony Orchestra - Free Concert at Sint Janskerk Maastricht

Southampton University’s Sinfonietta Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Orchestra are the three premiere classical music ensembles from the University of Southampton in southern England.

The Sinfonietta (Sinf) is a chamber orchestra that plays mostly Classical era music with recent performed works by composers such as Beethoven Mozart and Brahms. Sinf was formed in 1997 and since then have worked with many professional conductors such as Alex Hanks and Benjamin Oliver.

The Symphony Orchestra (SUSO) focuses on late Romantic and modern orchestral music and often perform works by Tchaikovsky Rachmaninoff and Mahler. SUSO is one of the oldest societies at the university formed in 1919. They frequently perform to sell-out audiences at an extremely high standard since their formation. Recently SUSO has worked with renowned soloists such as Justin Man and Magnus Karlsson.

The Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SUSWO) play modern original compositions by composers such as Holst and Hazo as well as orchestral reductions of famous pieces by composers such as Rossini and Berlioz. They are the most in-demand Wind Orchestra at the university and have worked alongside conductors Kenneth Leung and Jamie Wall as well as esteemed soloist Owyn Haylings. SUSWO was formed in 2001.
