Make a Heart from willow/tissue-paper, then join us on Saturday 22nd June in the city centre to celebrate Southampton Refugee Week
About this Event

The orange heart represents compassion for people fleeing war and persecution. Inspired by the refugee nation flag, and the colours of a lifebelt, the heart symbolises hope and kindness.

Take part in our workshop on Saturday 1st June at Edmund Kell Unitarian Church, and help to make orange hearts from willow and tissue-paper which we will then use as part of a parade through the city centre on Saturday 22nd June to celebrate Southampton Refugee Week 2024.

The workshop runs for 2 hours but it is possible to make a willow heart in under an hour - feel free to stay as long as you like, make one or many hearts! The workshop is free to attend but booking a slot in advance helps us plan and make sure we have enough materials for everyone. Any donations on the day to offset the costs of materials and hire of the space would be gratefully received, but definitely not required.

As the Hearts will be used as part of our Refugee Week parade later in the month, they will not be available to be taken away after the workshop (sorry!). You don't have to attend the parade to take part in the workshop, but we hope you will want to show off your heart and stand in solidarity with refugees.
