About this Event
Join South Wales IOSH Community to visit the Global Centre of Rail Excellence during construction and glimpse the future of European rail.
This exclusive visit offers a rare opportunity to see the GCRE during its construction phase, providing insight into how this nationally significant project is being developed and the long-term benefits it will deliver for the rail industry, government, the environment, and local and national economies.
About the visit
This is an external construction site visit and will include a guided tour of the site, including travel around the location using 4x4 vehicles. Attendees will gain first-hand exposure to large-scale infrastructure works and hear how the project is being delivered in line with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.
GCRE is regenerating a former coalfield site and transforming it into a world-class rail testing and innovation facility, while also delivering lasting social, environmental, and economic value. The project aims to:
- Redevelop a former industrial landscape
- Promote and enhance biodiversity
- Support the planting of native woodland species
- Showcase local cultural and industrial heritage to encourage sustainable tourism and community engagement
- Develop a visitor centre providing inclusive access to local industrial history and rail innovation
This visit links the rich industrial history of South Wales with a forward-looking vision for sustainable infrastructure and innovation.
