In this talk Education Curator, Cas Sanders, will be concentrating on explorers of the South Pole and their feats of extraordinary bravery and ingenuity. From Scott Shackleton to Amundsen Ross, from Ingrid Christiansen to Mawson and Barbara Hillary. There are many more people that we need to include in this role call of brave and sometimes controversial polar explorers, all traversed to the furthest South; a few both poles.
We know about the astonishing navigation of Shackleton's boat by Worsley to South Georgia, but without McNish they would never have got there or survived on Elephant island! Tom Creen was there for this and the last journey of Scott. But the greatest feat of survival could well have been Mawson.
Come and make up your mind.
