This is an IN PERSON opportunity to share your wisdom and experience as King County seeks to update some of the policies & rules for OSS
About this Event

Every few years the Washington State Government revises their state code, or WAC in regards to on-site sewage/septic systems. When this happens, King County needs to look at our own codes and ensure they meet or exceed the WAC guidelines for safety.

While we are doing this, the County seeks to look at all parts of our collaborative OSS System - all the people, processes, professionals and policies that help King County maintain healthy neighborhoods & growth while continuing to keep the safety & environmental protections the law mandates. We cannot change all of our codes, especially those set by the State, but we can make changes in some areas to better fit our County.

This year, we're looking at about 20 possible code changes that help reduce costs, increase access, better define systems and certifications, and protect families and neighbors. We need your thoughts on what is suggested- What's missing? How might these changes create unexpected barriers, particularly for those most at risk of experiencing the effects associated with septic failure? These will help County better understand your experiences and gain a sense of what’s most important to you.

This is the sixth of seven sessions open to the public, and is intented to gather insights from those who advocate for the environment, clean waterways and safe communites - people who work for nonprofits, community action groups, or who organize their community for healthy outcomes.

Next month, on August 8, we'll have a final virtual meeting for all residents of King County.
