Season Two of the Concrete Connection Project launches on Monday the 29th of July 2024 with several live musical performances at The Forest Of Dreams (Hurtle Square Adelaide) And this is an open invite to performers and participants of all shapes, sizes and abilities to join in!!!
South Australian musician Benjamin Roberts – CO-Founder of two of the state's premier musical acts (Ukulele Death Squad and The Timbers) –will continue The Concrete Connection Project, a unique solo tour that will see him ‘perform’ and ‘create’ on every single street, lane and alley inside Adelaide’s city limits. In a bid to help knock down the walls of stigma surrounding mental health and raise vital funds and awareness for charities that support people experiencing mental health issues, Ben will spend at least twenty minutes on each of the 577 streets creating and performing.
Between April 29th and June 28th Ben performed on 108 of the 577 Streets of the Adelaide CBD, fully completing a performance on every street of the South West Quarter of the City. In this time he also recorded, filmed and released 9 episodes of the Concrete Connection Project Podcast, 10 live music videos as well as raising over $4000 for mental health awareness and mental health charity's.
Uniquely, the city is divided into four quarters (North East, North West, South East and South West), each representing several different mental health charities or sectors. Upon starting and completing each quarter, celebratory fundraising concerts will be held in the respective sections of the city. Season One started at Cafe Troppo and finished at Diverse-City, both businesses that were situated in the South West Quarter.
This time, Season Two will see the launch of the South East Quarter at The Forest Of Dreams (Hurtle Square Adelaide) with several outdoor performances and an open invite to musicians and audience members to join in the fun.
This innovative approach aims to engage the community, destigmatise mental health discussions, and raise vital funds for diverse mental health needs. Ben has also secured the promise of collaboration with local businesses in the South East Quarter, and it’s community to turn this vision into a reality thus creating a lasting positive impact on the mental well-being of Adelaide's residents.
