This year we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of RAAF Base Edinburgh, just to the north of Adelaide. On Saturday 18 May at 2:30pm, the South Australian Aviation Museum proudly presents Group Captain Greg Weller who will look at the remarkable history of RAAF Edinburgh. Initially established in March 1954 to support weapons research and testing at Woomera, RAAF Base Edinburgh has had a long and proud history in Adelaide as the home for: aerospace research and development; and maritime patrol and reconnaissance. In the latter role after several decades of service the P-3 Orion has now been replaced by the P-8 Poseidon aircraft. Today, the base continues to be not only home to these capabilities but also broader joint and Army capabilities and is one of the Australia’s most important Air Force bases.
The event starts with an approximate 30-minute talk in the conference room followed by a "hands-on" to further study relevant aircraft in the museum hangars. No bookings are necessary this year – SAAM members and the public are most welcome.
So make sure you make a note in your diary and be at SAAM on the 18th of May to be a part of this important event.
