MacBochra
Is ionann 'seanchas' agus stair ársa, dlithe, traidisiúin, gineallach agus béaloideas na hÉireann. Is as an saibhreas so a fháisceann MacBóchra amhráin, ceol agus rince:
"Is ón seanchaí is sine, an breac, an fiolar agus an fiach dubh, Fintan Mac Bóchra, a thagann ár n-ainm. Tuigeann ár mbanna an traidisiún ina fhórsa beo go gcuimhnítear air i bhfoirmeacha éagsúla... aistear a bhíonn le roinnt ag an lucht féachana."
The word seanchas in the Irish language refers to the ancient histories, laws, traditions, geneologies and lore of Ireland. It is this vast wealth of tradition and storytelling that MacBóchra shapes into new bilingual music, poetry and dance: ''We take our name from the shape shifting salmon, eagle, hawk and oldest seanchaí Fintan mac Bóchra.
Our band explores tradition as a force living on and remembered in different forms....a shared journey with our audience.'' After a busy year in the studio, and a year of building their reputation at live events including performances at the Hazel Wood stage of Electric Picnic 2024, Ar Imeall Festival and Macalla Festival, the band recently released on bandcamp their first EP ‘Inis Ealga Inis Fáil'. The EP takes its title from two old names for Ireland, The Noble Island and The Isle of Destiny, associated with the legendary Fir Bolg and Tuatha Dé Danann. They will release their next EP, entitled 'MacBóchra', in autumn 2024. Katrina O' Kane
Katrina moved to West Cork from Belfast in 2014, having played for over 10 yrs on the underground electronic music scene in the North.After moving she spent the first two years wondering if she would ever return to music. This time was spent with a teacher learning about the breath, the emotional life and herself in the world after which she was surprised to find her singing voice.She discovered that West Cork was full of incredible talent and creativity and found great inspiration from meeting all the local musicians and singers. From there she picked up a guitar and started to learn and write and recreate how she expressed herself with sound.In 2019 she formed the 6 piece jazz funk band The Bella Coola and from this the female soulful folk trio Diving Bell in 2022.
In 2023 she began another venture hosting a concert series called ‘KIN’ @kin.westcork at Arundels by the Pier, Ahakista,Showcasing the talent of West Cork and beyond - bringing Artists and musicians together to celebrate the talent & creativity we have here.Most recently Katrina has been showcasing her own original work solo around west cork - using guitar, percussion, vocals and a Boss RC505 loop pedal. She is delighted to be able to come and play for the very first time in Cork city this December
Klaus Harvey
Klaus Harvey’s extensive musical journey has taken him from playing solo
gigs in Dublin’s legendary Underground Bar, through support slots to the likes
of Tracy Chapman and Michelle Shocked, to playing in a variety of bands that
dipped their toes into numerous genres including folk, trad, indie, grunge and
alt country/ Americana. Now he has come full circle and is playing solo again,
where he feels his songs can be better appreciated in their clear raw
nakedness, displaying a mix of the aforementioned genres.
He has released several EPs and CDs with his various bands all of which
received critical acclaim and is looking forward to recording his first solo album
in the near future. His songs have been covered by Leo O’Kelly (Tír na nÓg)
and Greenshine.
