There is more to Capital City Chorus than singing.
When you purchase tickets for their 2024 Showtime! show, you are not only going to receive an enjoyable musical performance, your dollars are also helping the chorus to support their charities in the Ottawa area.
Harmonize For Speech
Capital City Chorus makes annual financial donations to Harmonize For Speech, a charitable arm of the Ontario District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Harmonize for Speech (H4S) has received over 5.5 million dollars from Ontario barbershoppers since its founding in 1977. That money is used to support speech pathology students and instructors across Ontario, allowing these students to contribute greatly to their ability to face their personal challenges of communicating in the broader society. Capital City Chorus and our quartets have contributed substantial donations to H4S. In fact, some quartets donate 100% of their earnings to H4S.
Sing Canada Harmony
Your ticket purchase will also help Capital City Chorus make substantial donations to Sing Canada Harmony, an organization proudly presenting scholarships to musical directors, educators and students across Canada, to fulfil their vision of Enriched lives, healthier communities, and a better Canada through singing.
Camp Smitty
The charity which Capital City Chorus supports most proudly is the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. Founded in 1923 as a registered charity, they have offered programs for disadvantaged youth in Ottawa, including operating Camp Smitty, a beautiful summer camp in Renfrew County. Camp Smitty gives these children, at no cost to them, the only experience most of them have ever had of a wonderful week of outdoor fun, challenge and exploration in a beautiful natural environment. The men of Capital City Chorus support Camp Smitty by spending 4 days every September at the camp, where they work as volunteers to both maintain existing facilities and construct new ones. Over the years, Capital City Chorus members have painted, rebuilt and repaired many of the buildings at the camp. They have put a new roof on the main hall and constructed new cabins for the kids who attend, going so far as to solicit suppliers for donations of building materials for their projects. Their work allows Camp Smitty to reduce their annual maintenance costs and direct more of their resources to the benefit of their programs for kids.
Your Ticket Purchases Make This Happen
Now that you know where your dollars go when you attend our Showtime! Show, and that they are far more than just entertainment dollars, we look forward to seeing you at our show. And if you feel moved to purchase a couple of tickets more than you actually need, and perhaps donate those tickets to others so they can also be entertained, we welcome donations in that way as well. And you can be assured that a portion of those purchase dollars will be used to support these deserving charities.
