songs to a live audience and an industry networking opportunity.
About this Event
The BMAA committee is hosting its first Sound Session and networking event at the Wax Music Lounge in Melbourne. This is a paid opportunity for emerging artists to perform up to three of their songs to a live audience, followed by the chance to connect with BMAA members, other musicians and music industry representatives.
One of the pillars of BMAA’s mission is to facilitate a platform for artists of the African diaspora to showcase their musical talent and network with key music industry people.
TÈBIR
Tèbir is a unique Melbourne-based singer/rapper, songwriter, and dancer who fuses African soul and neo-funk genres to create striking music and live performance art.
His passion for music was shaped by his parents' Sudanese heritage and musical culture. From a young age, Tèbir absorbed the musical influence of many soul, funk, and R&B artists including Anthony Hamilton, Michael Jackson, Andre 3000 and T-Pain.
At the age of 11, Tèbir was exposed to the bass guitar which he began learning by ear and soon after he added the piano and acoustic guitar to his musical repertoire.
Tebir weaves his distinctively sultry and smouldering voice with a command of rhythm, rap, and unique lyrics to create songs that range from the intimate to the powerful, combining expressive solos and explosive climaxes.
The artful combination of vocal and instrumental performance produces a vivid, vibrant, unique musical experience of soul-infused, neo-funk and R&B music.

Chikchika features renowned Oromo singer-songwriter Muluu Baqqalaa with Tigrinya vocalists Anbessa Gebrehiwot and Haftu Reda. Multi-instrumentalist Dale Gorfinkel, and Michael McNab on the drum kit round out this new voice in Australian music.
In recent years Chikchika has been captivating crowds at prominent music festivals around Australia such as Mona Foma, Dark Mofo, WOMADelaide, Panama Festival, Leaps & Bounds, Brunswick Music Festival, and Alice Springs' Big Day Out in Harmony.
