Mary Spalding, Yountville resident since 2014, was born and raised in the Midwest and moved to San Francisco in 1993 in order to: a) not ever have to shovel any more snow (!), and b) participate in the thriving World Music scene in the Bay Area. Since her introduction to steel drums at Wesleyan University, where she earned a master’s degree in World Music, Mary has performed throughout California with her steel drum band, Steel Jam. She is also an accomplished pianist, playing since she was 5 years old and studying piano and organ at the Lawrence University Conservatory Music for her bachelor’s degree in music.
