The universe brought together would-be strangers by their souls… and a band was born.

Soul Strangerz are fans of music first, united by their arguably insane obsession with listening to music, they play like they are keeping evil spirits at bay. Drawing inspiration from everywhere from rock and hiphop, blues to folk, reggae to outlaw country, their original, independent, music respectfully refuses a specific category.

You might find the Strangerz playing spacey rock originals at a benefit concert, under a bridge, at fancy restaurants or performing at venues and breweries while covering Tom Waits or Dr John in the middle of a set.

Every original seems to want you to think you’ve pegged their style just before changing your mind and thankfully (as of 2025) you can stream Soul Strangerz to decide the vibe for yourself.

Maybe it’s the A.D.D. or maybe it’s some strange phobia of being pigeonholed but Soul Strangerz defuses your day by refusing to stick to a single genre and by bringing people together for a party and a dash of lyrical reflection or speaking to the human condition.

Led by singer/songwriter Paul Watson (guitar), Soul Strangerz features Richmond-area musicians LA Moore (drums/percussion: toured/played with The Jackson 5, Divinity Roxx, Akon), John Trongone (bass/guitar: toured/played with The Trongone Band), and, when not busy touring, producing, or generally being a badass, Michael E. York (lead guitar/bass/keys: toured/played with Sleepwalkers, J Roddy Walston and the Business, The Lumineers)—who shreds harder than he smiles.
