Come learn about sortition and Civic Assemblies!
A Civic Assembly is a random selection from members of a community to come together and address community concerns. The random selection bit is the "sortition". This is a tool and a path to bring democracy to the people.
This is a casual hang out, but probably around 7:00 pm, we will break into groups and do some interactive, facilitated discussions about topics chosen by you (whomever shows up)! Not only is this a demonstration of how deliberation can be facilitated, but it also is a great way to meet people and engage with new ideas.
Public Democracy LA (PDLA(https://www.publicdemocracyla.org/)) is working with Culver City to facilitate a Civic Assembly for their participatory budget process. PDLA is also working with Rewrite LA(https://www.rewritela.org/) to to possibly use Civic Assemblies in the charter reform process going on now in Los Angeles.
