Please note a time slot is for ONE ITEM only. We hope you will sit with the fixer and learn more about repairing your item.
Read down to find out more - or see the FAQs.
We are not simply offering a FREE REPAIR- with our volunteer 'fixers', but we hope to engage with you to learn something about your item: why it broke; maybe learn how to fix it yourself another time; or to buy something that lasts longer next time.
What kind of things can I bring in for fixing?
Electric/electronic: Usually anything domestic that you can carry. Common items are toasters, coffee machines, vacuum cleaners, radios, kitchen mixers....(not microwaves, not pressure washers) Surprise us! Please ensure you bring all accessories (mains cables etc) needed to demonstrate the fault.
Clothes/Fabric: This could be anything - buttons loose or missing (bring any buttons you have); hems need altering; tears in your favourite clothes; adjustments to size - our volunteer fixer will soon tell you if they can help or not! NO ZIPS PLEASE.
Bike checks: St Albans Cycle Hub will give your bike a basic check-over - and can make minor adjustments. They will advise you if you need further work doing. Following the bike check you can then book your bike in for for more repairs if needed, at the St Albans Cycle Hub.
Tool sharpening: Help you bring sharp edges back to your tools. Please transport and look after your item on site, safely and responsibly.
Booking System
We have the booking system to avoid overcrowding. Please note fixing times can vary so your booked time is not a firm fixing slot, but helps us to fit you in as soon as possible after arrival. Refreshments available while you wait.
Please note a time slot is for one item only. Please do not book two items in at the same time as we hope you will sit with the fixer and learn more.
Happy fixing!
Covid/Masks
Since you may be working relatively closely with a fixer for up to half an hour (possibly more) we will have masks available to wear whilst with the fixer if requested.
Are you a repairer/fixer?
Find out more how you can help at local repair fairs..
All our repairers/fixers are experienced volunteers. We always have a trained PAT tester to check electricals on-site before repairers look at the item. We have space for a 'mentee' who can sit with one of our experienced repairers, to watch what they do, and have a chat to them, to see how it works. If you are a 'fixer' at home with electrical/electronic goods you may be able to help local residents - no special experience is necessary. Why not sit in at this Repair Fair?
