Started in photography at the age of ten with the help of a grade school science teacher looking to help shy kids express themselves through photography. Developed and printed inthe boiler room of a small parochial school in Canton Ohio.
Throughout the years photography was a way of expressing myself through imagery, and manytimes a great way to relax, slow down and smell the roses.
Managed a professional camera store in Charlotte handling professional clientele for three anda half years and was intrigued with studio lighting. I would take new equipment to local prosafter work and while I knew how to make the units work mechanically, I absorbed what thephotographer was doing to bend and use light.
In 2000 I realized someday I would retire from the fire service and knew I wanted to find asecond career. At the urging of friends I bought my first digital camera and started shooting fora little newspaper, the Rhino Times.Between 2003 and 2012 I shot for a couple of different wire services, all the while wanting thechance to shoot for one of the big three (Getty, AP, USA Today) and see if I could compete onthe bigger stage.
My opportunity came at the 2012 SEC Championship game in Atlanta when Bob Rosato, thenhead of photography for USA Today gave me his card. I relished at the opportunity to see if Icould compete and welcomed it.Since 2012 I have shot just about everything in our region, NCAA, NFL, NBA, Nascar, MLS,International Soccer, PGA, USGA.
I have been blessed to have had theopportunity to participate in twocareers that I love equally.
