Sonology of Soil - Acoustic Workshop on the Sounds Around Us and Beneath Our Feet

Join the Safe Spaces project and explore the acoustics of the environment around us as well as beneath our feet! Participants will gain hands-on experience with the principles of acoustic ecology and with techniques of sound capturing using sensitive microphones. We will listen to and record both the visible and the invisible environment around us.
⟡ The workshop will include ⟡
• work with field recording equipment (field acoustics)
• listening and spatial-perception exercises inspired by acoustic ecology
• creation of a collective sound composition
• discussion on using sonological methods in ecology, art, agriculture, and education
The workshop is intended for up to 10 participants – for youth and adults aged 15 and above

Šárka Zahálková (Czechia) acts as an artist, curator, cultural manager and activist. She has a long-standing interest in art as a tool of social change, art in the public space and acoustic ecology. In her own artistic practice, her work spans drawing, time-based media, installations, sound art, and community oriented participative projects. / W: https://160cm.me/cv
Czech scientist Vilém Řiháček (Czechia) is a landscape and environmental engineer. For 15 years worked as a designer and water engineer focused on water retention and landscape restoration. He founded a company producing biochar as a soil amendment and works as CEO of this company for last three years. / W: https://www.cirkusc.cz/
