Little Systems (Berit Goetz and Jamie Doughterty) and John Hermanson of Storyhill (with Maren Haynes Marchesini and Megan Makeever) bring you an evening of sharing stories and songs that offer a glimpse of the kind of creative faith they’ve found as working artists against the backdrop of pandemic and political and personal upheaval. They hope to nourish and inspire the hearts and imaginations of all who are reaching for a resilient, generative, and generous life of faith. Performed in the Nashville style "writer's round," they will take turns sharing songs, stories, and discussing the intersections of their spirituality, creativity, and contemplative practice.ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Little Systems is confessional art pop from Nashville. Hailed as "mature, poignant and knowing...breathing contemporary urgency" (Luke Stringer), the work of this Midwest-born, Southern-bred duo is marked by lush keyboards, shimmering guitars, synthesizers, and singer Berit Goetz’s distinctive contralto delivery. With the off-kilter soulfulness of Mitski and Radiohead, Little Systems' debut LP I Was a Deer, out in fall 2025, confronts the beauty and brutality of growing up in the digital undertow. Drawing its title from the image of Psalm 42’s deer that “panteth after the water-brooks,” the LP has a psalmic character, expressing the full range of desire, joy, rage, grief, and tender intimacy present in a life lived with a God who seems at times unaccountably silent.
John Hermanson is an award-winning songwriter and composer of the acclaimed acoustic duo Storyhill, as well as independent and commercial music spanning orchestral, world, pop, rock, and indie genres. Raised at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman, John has served Lutheran communities in Minnesota, Washington state, and Montana. His sacred music is in regular rotation at centers of Lutheran liturgy like Holden Village (Washington), Christikon Camp and Conference Center (Montana), and House of Mercy (Minneapolis). Rooted in prophetic and mystical traditions, John's sacred songs raise ancient yet urgent questions about radical love and mutual responsibility, written in his compelling, distinctive folk style. He is joined by multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Maren Haynes Marchesini and Megan Makeever.
