About this Event
Songs My Teacher Taught Me is the first of a two-part recital concept featuring a handful of the Twin Cities' top vocal teaching talents and exploring repertoire that is often considered "standard" for voice students, interpreted by the teachers themselves. Tenors Gary Briggle and Dennis Peterson, mezzo-soprano Mikalia Bradberry, and sopranos Tracey Engleman and Patricia Kent, along with pianist Bryon Wilson, each share repertoire from their own learning journeys and performance careers, speaking to how these selections have influenced them as artists and sharing the joy of singing music that is "standard" through a new lense. You'll hear songs from classical, folk, opera, and musical theater genres all intermingled to tell a story of the singing artist through the joy of collaboration.
Friday, May 10th at 480 Arts. Free parking in lot and on street nearby.
Doors open at 6:00pm with a cash bar available. Show begins at 7:00pm.
Stay tuned for part two on August 10th, where the same set of artists redefines the term "standard" and all sing whatever the fach they want with the amazing band Spaceport accompanying.
