Join us for Songs from the Vine, an evening of art and music by Memphis composer and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Petty. The show will feature a series of graphic scores made from cyanotypes, a photography technique used to capture the images of plants in the form of light. Those same plants will be featured in a live performance using a device that transfers the energetic responses of plants into sound and music, alongside a number of instruments including crystal singing bowls, gongs, and digital samples from Mother Earth's 1976 album Plantasia.Matthew Petty is an American musician, poet, and performer. His work combines elements of music, sacred text, video, and performance. As an artist his work has been featured in film and music festivals around the world. He has participated in artist residency programs at the Lucas Artists Residency at Montalvo Arts, The Watermill Center, Chautauqua Institute, and most recently at First Congregational Church of Memphis.
He has contributed media to a variety of exhibition spaces around the world including The New York City Independent Film Festival, OUTFEST, The Alley Theater, Ecos Urbanos Sound and Transmedia Festival in Mexico City, and Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille, France; and has collaborated with stage and film directors including CASSILS, Robert Wilson, Vivian Giourousis, Phil Darius Wallace, and with musicians and composers Eve Beglarian, Alva Rogers, and Cristy Michel.
Matt lives in Memphis where he serves as a teacher of Kundalini Yoga, a Reiki master, and sound healing practitioner; promoting arts and consciousness education throughout the region
