About this Event

Johannes Brahms's Vier Ernste Gesange were written as his last songs shortly before his death and in them he explores themes of life, death, oppression, work and love using gorgeous, sweeping Biblical texts from Ecclesiastes, Sirach and Corinthians.

Katherine Lazaruk (voice) and Ronald Sat (piano) will perform them once, then Cathy Merchant, noted interfaith minister, will speak on the texts to give historical context. We'll have a short intermission, then perform them again and finally we'll move into discussion of the central question "Does knowing more about the art change your experience of the art?".

A unique combination of song, sermon and salon, this is a must-see event!
