A songline, also called dreaming track, is one of the paths across the land (or the sky) within the animist belief systems of the Aboriginal cultures of Australia. They mark the route followed by localised "creator-beings" in the Dreaming. These routes serve as connections between individuals and their ancestral lands, carrying intricate geographical, mythological, and cultural information. For this exhibition Laura Nelson has gathered together threads from her own dreaming track- collected memories held within family photographs and precious saved objects of sentimental value kept on many shelves around her home. Through a series of illuminated glass pieces created using reverse gilds in gold and richly pigmented enamels Nelson presents her own myths and songs in this her first solo show.
Songlines launches on Thursday 3rd October 6-9pm at Vault Gallery & Project Space, 28-32 Victoria St Belfast.
The exhibition continues Friday 4th- Wednesday 9th October only. Open daily 12-6pm.
