About this Event

After his election in 1974, Maynard Jackson made history becoming Atlanta's first black mayor. Through his two terms of office Mayor Jackson helped the city grow and thrive by expanding public works and providing material support to Black small business owners. In this play, written by award-winning playwright and author Pearl Cleage, we are able to witness the story of his famous 1973 election from an insider's perspective.

Following the performance we will join together in conversation and dialogue to gain even deeper insight into Maynard Jackson's historic presence in the City of Atlanta, including his impact on Black/Jewish relations.
