FMC’s very own Morgan Owen and the other members of Some Strings Attached will be performing in the sanctuary at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 19th! The concert is free and open to the public.From the performers:
Some Strings Attached values creativity, flexibility, and diversity of programming in music. The name of our group represents the way we appear on stage: a music ensemble performing with an unspecified number of strings. Though the full group is five members—singer, pianist, violinist, violist, and cellist—we often perform in subsets. Part of our mission is to promote the presentation of programs where the ensemble members have different roles throughout. We enjoy the freedom to program pieces that allow our members to work together in any combination. Adhering to this philosophy, we strive to present programs encompassing a wide variety of sounds and genres, often juxtaposing classical and popular styles. We often perform new works written by our composer and pianist and arrange other folk and classical pieces as an ensemble. Overall, we inspire one another to be well-rounded musicians, open to all musical possibilities. Our pianist is also a composer, our singer performs in several vocal registers, some of our string players perform on multiple instruments, and we are all educators in some capacity. Through our flexibility and creative programming, we open the borders of classical music traditions and invite our audiences to share in the creative process. Some Strings Attached performs throughout the United States as part of chamber series, at universities, in libraries and schools, at bars and coffee shops, and wherever curious listeners gather.
