Welcome to Somatic Sanctuary, a full-day experience where you are invited to self-regulate & co-regulate through a range of complementary modalities: Yin Yoga, Authentic Relating & Contact Improvisation.
This February, you are invited to The Wellington Meditation Centre, a beautiful & cosy urban sanctuary complete with a tranquil garden. Come explore the many layers of yourself and others through a journey of deep yet playful communication and contact games.
After taking this precious day for yourself, you are likely to step into the week ahead with a profound sense of well-being, a remarkable connection to your body and an experiential toolkit that you can use right away to make your everyday life even better.

WHAT will actually happen?
Activities will explore movement, conversation and physical contact, through the modalities of Yin Yoga, Authentic Relating & Contact Improvisation.
Yin Yoga focuses on deeply relaxing the nervous system, by bringing fresh life force (prana) to your connective tissue and vital organs. Through deep stretches, long holds, and mindful breathing, your body is given permission to fully release any tension that has accumulated over time.
Authentic Relating is a ground breaking social tool that invites you to courageously step into open hearted connection, through radical honesty and active listening. The practice invites you to drop deeper into presence, embodied awareness and permission to express whatever is alive within you and the ‘we-space’ between you and other(s), as well as any boundaries that emerge within the connection field.
Contact Improvisation is a dance form that emphasises both self-regulation and co-regulation, through spontaneous movement and physical connection between people, as well as the non-human physical space (such as the floor). It encourages exploration of balance, weight-sharing, and communication through touch, inducing a deeply aware state of surrendered fluidity.
Consent will be emphasised throughout the weekend. You will continually be reminded to listen to your body and only do what is within your personal boundaries. While you will be encouraged to stretch yourself and widen your window of tolerance, you will practice identifying your stress zone are strongly advised to regulate if you push yourself too far.
There will also be a support team on hand if you need to co-regulate at any point.
WHERE will it be?
The workshop will take place at Wellington Meditation Centre, 31 Hobson Crescent, Thorndon, Wellington 6011, New Zealand.
