Already a Yin teacher but want to integrate Myofascial Release Therapy and/or Yin energetics plus TCM acupressure point
activation into your Yin classes?
We have some flexible options for you.
*******************************************************
Course Structure
This hybrid training consists of 3 studio or Zoom weekends and will be held at Hot Yoga Dublin.
Additionally, there are 29 hrs of on-demand training to be taken before March 1st 2023. All hours must be completed before graduation and certification.
As soon as you sign up for the training, you will be given a profile on the on-demand training platform and you can start your classes. We recommend that you start your on-demand hours before the October weekend if possible. The more hours you have completed before the weekend, the more prepared for the live training you will be.
You can access the manual e-book on the online platform which you can use in addition to the printed manual that you will receive during the training.
Playbacks of the training can be accessed up to March 1st 2023. It is best to attend as much of the training live (in- studio or Zoom), but if you cannot make all of the hours live,
you can use the playbacks to make up the time.
The Method
The Somaroll Myoyin method combines Somaroll Myofascial Therapy and Yin Yoga. In this training, you will also learn some mobility-inspired yoga to counterbalance and enhance the deep fascial release work inherent in both Yin and Myofascial Release therapy.
The 'soma' in Somaroll refers to the somatic aspect of the practice. In this training you will learn the somatic expressions relating to depression, grief, stress and trauma and use the Myoyin practices to reset the autonomic nervous system out of autopilot and back into alignment with the sensory nervous system, where we
can feel embodied, relaxed, safe and whole.
The Myoyin practices unravel negative somatic imprints in our fascia. However, all Yin yoga practices are secondary practices and should be combined with strengthening work or some form of Yang yoga. Somaroll Myoyin offers mobility-inspired yoga to help to stabilise and strengthen the joints. This strengthening work can be integrated into Myoyin classes or done separately. It is an important aspect of the practice functionally and somatically as muscle strength is required not just for functional daily movement, but also to maintain the waves and domes within the fascial matrix to maintain balance within the nervous system so that all other systems of the body can
optimise.
Myofascial Release Therapy
The Myofascial Release Therapy in this training is not like the ordinary myofascial release that you see at the gym. We use tools and techniques that are suitable for inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, bursitis, sacroiliitis, fasciitis and other inflammatory conditions to help reduce inflammation. You will learn different techniques to release the fascia in relation to muscle
function, the direction of fibres etc. for the best result.
One of the most powerful tools of the Somaroll Myoyin method is the breath. In addition to using various techniques to release fascia, unlike other myofascial release work, this method combines pranayama and Swara yoga techniques while compressing the fascia in
order to create the deepest release and reset.
The myofascial release aspect of Myoyin Yoga helps students access a deeper release that would not be available to them through postures alone, helping students to feel better about themselves physically and
mentally.
MyoYin Yoga
The Yin yoga in this training is taught by Valerie Murphy. Valerie teaches Yin Yoga on the Green Lotus Yoga Yin and
Restorative Trainings with Carol Murphy.
The main focus of the Yin module on this training is learning how to teach the original 26 yin postures, including many
variations and modifications.
You will also learn about the energetics of Yin yoga including where the five elements and myofascial meridians overlap
and connect with the seasons and senses.
Additionally, you will learn about the TCM acupressure points and how to activate them using myofascial release balls. As this is specialised work, qualified yin teachers who do not wish to re-sit their foundation training can attend the
acupressure module separately, if wished.
So what is the difference between Yin yoga and Myoyin? Myoyin typically yoga uses myofascial release tools placed on specific body parts as you are holding the yoga postures to help release adhesions in the fascia and deepen the pose. With Somaroll Myoyin, we sometimes use balls, peanuts and rollers in the poses and other times we alternate the yin poses with myofascial release and mobility exercises to create neuromuscular balance in specific joints and body
parts, i.e hips shoulders, spine etc.
Myo-Mobility
The mobility yoga in this training will be taught by Carol Murphy. In addition to teaching yoga for 33 years and training teachers for 15 years, Carol is also an FRC (Functional Range Conditioning) movement specialist.
The mobility exercises work on stabilising the joints and neutralising muscle imbalances relating to bad posture, excess sitting, repetitive stress etc. Muscle imbalances can also lead to other more serious issues such as bursitis, nerve impingement and sciatica and more.
The mobility inspiration in Somaroll Myoyin emerged from FRC, which aims to strengthen all of the joints in the body in both their long and short ranges to achieve functional movement
and mobility.
The mobility work in this training is taught mainly during the 12 on-demand hours, where you will receive workshops in relation to the different parts of the body: ankles, knees, hips, core, spine, neck, shoulders, elbows and wrists. Many of these exercises are used by physios and can help students and clients in both prehab and rehab. The mobility work overlaps with yoga postures to help integrate the work into the spirit of the practice.
Additionally, some of the mobility and yoga exercises use myofascial release tools where you can mobilise joints and release fascia at the same time. This work will be taught live in
the studio and on Zoom.
