ISIRKA presents “Somali Soul: For the Ladies That Came Before Us”, a night honoring the legendary Somali female singers who shaped the golden era of Somali music in the 1970s- 1990s. Through archival recordings, intimate conversation, and shared listening, the evening becomes a living tapestry of memory, identity, and intergenerational connection. This event celebrates the women of Hoballada Waaberi whose voices, style, and artistry defined a generation and beyond. Join us in Boston on January 31, 2026 for an evening of music, storytelling, and homage to the foremothers who carried our sound—and our soul—into the world.
Designed as a space for Somalis in the diaspora to engage with cultural memory, the program also welcomes the wider community to experience and learn from this rich musical tradition. The evening concludes with communal music and open listening, fostering connection across cultures and generations.
