“Without darkness, nothing comes to birth,As without light, nothing flowers.”
~ May Sarton
Join us at the Garden on the shortest day of the year for this magical, family-friendly gathering to celebrate the winter solstice.
Together we will mark the seasonal shift from fall to winter, a time of rest, for us, the plants and the animals, and to celebrate the return of the sun's light, which brings ever-brighter days and offers us new beginnings.
This year's lantern procession will follow a new route at the Garden, and will end with music by the fire on our back terrace.
Inside the Pavilion, listen to the enchanting sounds played by the Sunshine Coast Community Orchestra, while astrophotography taken by the Sunshine Coast Astronomers is projected onto the walls - if skies are clear, they'll have their scopes set out to let us view the stars.
At 6:00 pm, join us by the fire where Jill Shatford and Cliff Simon will offer a repertoire of solstice songs accompanied by acoustic guitar and gentle ukulele.
We encourage families to dress warmly, wear boots, and bring a homemade lantern (LED or battery-operated lights only, no flame).
Thank you for the support of RBC Sechelt for helping to make this community event possible!
