About this Event
The Freedom Park Bandshell in the Town of LaGrange will be the venue for a "Solid Gold!, Big Band Style" show presented by The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra to benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity. Performances will be Saturday, May 31st at 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 1st at 6 p.m. and the suggested donation is $25 per person.
"Solid Gold!, Big Band Style" will feature The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra, including six vocalists and swing dance performers, in a show spotlighting the 50-year history of the band. The Big Band Sound jazz orchestra was founded in 1975 and has been performing throughout the Hudson Valley ever since, including appearances at all of the major local venues, parks, colleges, and festivals. "Solid Gold!, Big Band Style" will highlight the best and most popular songs the band has performed over the past half a century: the songs at the core of the Great American Songbook, all in the most exciting setting of a live big band.
Highlights will include Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" and "Summer Wind", Ella Fitgerald's "The Very Thought of You" and "Skylark", Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade", Duke Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing", Count Basie's "Strike Up the Band", Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife", Rosemary Clooney's "I'm the Big Band Singer", Artie Shaw's "Moonglow", Peggy Lee's "All the Cats Join In", Doc Severinsen's swinging update of "In the Mood", plus many more.
Although tickets won't be required for entry, the suggested donation is $25 per person, which can be made in advance here via EventBright or can be donated in person at a performance.
Proceeds from this show will benefit the Sparrow's Nest of the Hudson Valley local charity, which provides meals to families facing a cancer diagnosis. This "Solid Gold!" show is the eleventh in a series of “Big Band Style” shows that have been presented. Over the past eight shows, more than sixty-five thousand dollars have been raised for Sparrow's Nest. More information can be found at sparrowsnestcharity.org. In 2020, The Big Band Sound was recognized by the Dutchess County Executive's Arts Awards with their Special Citation.
Freedom Park is located at 212 Skidmore Road in LaGrangeville and accessible parking and entry is available. Bring folding chairs, blankets, and picnic items, but please note that dogs are not allowed.
