About this Event
What: A Solemn Pontifical Latin Mass (TLM) celebrated by Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone
When: Feb. 20, 2026 6:30 pm
Where: National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi, San Francisco
Why: For the intentions of the living and deceased members of the Legion of Mary worldwide. And to celebrate the 800th anniversary of St. Francis' death, the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mission Dolores, and the beginning of San Francisco.
Pope Leo has decreed 2026 the "year of St. Francis" as it is the 800th anniversary of his transitus, or going home to the Lord. Archbishop Cordileone has acknowledged 2026 as not only the 250th anniversary of the founding of Mission Dolores by St. Junipero Serra and his Franciscan brothers, but also therefore the 250th birthday of the great city named after St. Francis, San Francisco. Pope Leo has declared a plenary indulgence that includes visiting the National Shrine of St. Francis.
The Archbishop's Schola, directed by Dr. Jennifer Donelson-Nowicka, will sing beautiful sacred music, including the Byrd Mass for Four Voices, Byrd's Emendemus in Melius, and Frank La Rocca's Miserere, alongside all the proper chants.
Please register to help us plan the hospitality afterward.
