SOLD OUT Seagrass Footstool Weaving - a one-day workshop

Ever wanted to learn a heritage craft that’s been woven (literally) through human history for thousands of years?
Join traditional upholsterer and seat-weaver Felicity Tran for a one-day workshop where you’ll master the beautiful herringbone seagrass weave - a technique used in handcrafted furniture across coastal communities for centuries.
You’ll work with sustainable seagrass cord on a beechwood frame made by a local artisan, and by the end of the day you’ll be heading home with a finished footstool you’ve woven yourself. A real, usable, professional-quality piece of furniture.
Why seagrass?
This humble coastal material has been at the heart of chair-making traditions around the world, prized for its strength, resilience and natural beauty. While cane and rush were loved by aristocrats and mid-century designers, seagrass has quietly remained a favourite among craftspeople for its robustness and timeless look. Today, artisan chair makers are returning to these traditional fibres as we all reconnect with slower, more sustainable making.
Felicity’s teaching style is friendly, informal and wonderfully productive, perfect whether you love learning new skills, want a mindful day away from the screen, or simply fancy making something beautiful with your hands. Expect good chat, gentle focus, and that unbeatable feeling of creating something from scratch.
If you’ve ever admired vintage woven furniture… this is your chance to learn the skill yourself.
Make something real.
Make something useful.
Make something you’ll treasure.
