THE HISTORY:
The Oliver House in Middleboro, Massachusetts, carries a rich historical narrative, particularly tied to the Oliver family. Built in 1769, this Georgian-style mansion was actually purchased by Judge Peter Oliver as a wedding gift for his son, Dr. Peter Oliver, and his wife, Mrs. Hutchinson.
Dr. Peter Oliver, like his father, was a Loyalist, supporting the British crown during the American Revolutionary War. This allegiance made the Oliver family a target for the Sons of Liberty, a group of American patriots who opposed British rule. As tensions heightened, the Sons of Liberty took over the household, using it as a stronghold against the Loyalists.
The Oliver House not only reflects the architectural beauty of the 18th century but also serves as a poignant reminder of the ideological battles that shaped the nation.
THE PARANORMAL:
Visitors and paranormal investigators have reported seeing ghostly figures, believed to be past residents, wandering through the house in period clothing. Unexplained footsteps, whispers, and knocking sounds are often heard, attributed to restless spirits. Many experience sudden cold spots and objects moving on their own. Visitors frequently describe an eerie feeling of being watched, even when alone.
