Join the Million Acre Challenge and University of Maryland Extension for a soil health field day at UMES Research and Education Farm. This first half of the workshop will feature in-field soil health demonstrations comparing minimally disturbed land (soy field), highly disturbed (vegetable fields) and permanent beds. Demos may include: double infiltration rings, penetrometer and wire flags for compaction, soil temperature on covered/canopy vs bare ground, slake test, tabletop erosion model, root boxes and/or cover crop buckets.
During the second half of the day, we will welcome Thomas Fazio, Compost Manager of Eco City Farms, for a compost demonstration and presentation on core principals of composting and a deep dive into two systems of different scales.
