About this Event
What's it all about?
Soft City is a community art project that delves into the history of Sauchiehall Street and the stories of the people who visit it. Join artists Ellie and Alice as we explore and reclaim our social heritage and shared spaces, uncovering the many reincarnations of Sauchiehall Street.
Soft City aims to diversify the voices involved in the regeneration of Glasgow's City Centre. Using Feminist City thinking, we will imagine together what a safer, more accessible and inclusive city centre could look like for everyone.
What will we get up to?
Come and get crafty! Through a series of chat ‘n’ craft workshops, we will collaborate to create a soft sculpture model of Sauchiehall Street. Everyone is welcome to take part, whether you're new to crafting or an expert stitcher!
Connect with others while learning and sharing craft skills in a supportive, relaxed environment. We will have different stations set up where you can try activities like weaving, embroidery, appliqué, and fabric painting.
Inspired by the Make-Do-And-Mend pop-up workshops that were held on Sauchiehall Street during WW2, we will also be sharing visible mending techniques for rips or holes, so feel free to bring along something that needs fixing!
