Discover the exciting and unpredictable beauty of soda firing! In this workshop, you’ll learn how sodium—introduced into the kiln with water at peak temperature—interacts with flame to create stunning natural glaze effects across your ceramic work.
✨ Why Take This Workshop?
Completion of this workshop makes you eligible to fire your work in Jane’s soda kiln, Shenron, without having to retake the class. Taking notes is encouraged if you plan to continue exploring this unique firing process.
✨What You’ll Learn:
-Introduction to the history of soda firing
-Best clays and glazes to use
-How to wad and prepare your work
-Glazing do’s and don’ts
-Dipping and spray glaze demos
-Kiln loading techniques
-Overview of firing schedule
✨Details:
-Includes up to 12”x24” kiln space for your pieces (no work taller than 16”)
-All work must be bisque fired before the workshop
-Day One: Instruction, demos, and prep
-Day Two: Kiln loading (attendance optional, but encouraged)
-Soda firings occur every two months, with the kiln firing once fully loaded
