About this Event
Working women are discouraged from studying economics, we are told it is too abstract for us to understand and that we should leave it up to academics. We are told that recessions are unavoidable and cyclical, however that is only the case under capitalism. During capitalist recessions, the responsibility of pinching pennies falls squarely on women, and the exploitation of women workers and violence increase. This would not be the case under socialism, where the distribution of needs is not decided by profit but by the people. The fight for women's liberation is undeniably tied to socialism.
The latest issue of Breaking the Chains Magazine "The Political Economy of Women's Liberation" seeks to make understanding the capitalist system more accessible to working and poor women. PSL San Antonio is holding a woman led study group over this issue to encourage women to study the system they are oppressed by and empower them to fight for a better one.
No matter what your level of understanding is of economics or politics, all are welcome! This is a space to ask questions and learn among fellow working class women. Snacks and refreshments will be provided!
