Russia’s war against Ukraine is soon in its fifth year. However, there is still not enough knowledge in Norway about Ukraine and how Ukraine affects Norwegian foreign policy. NUPI has set up the NUPI Ukraine Centre to address some of these gaps. The Centre will encompass various empirical themes and theoretical perspectives, serve as a hub for NUPI’s Ukraine-related research and reflect the breadth of our work.
One important project in NUPIs portfolio is RE-ENGAGE funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. Among the issues the project addresses is social trust in Ukraine. How much trust do Ukrainians have in public institutions, geopolitical players and measures seeking to build social trust in Ukraine? How does vertical trust (between people and authorities) play into these dynamics? How do Ukrainians perceive the impact of the ongoing EU engagements in the country? What is their general perception of its performance? To better understand these questions, NUPI conducted a face-to-face survey in Kyiv during the second part of 2025 and will now present the preliminary results.
